Swansea’s Sigurdsson in demand

West Ham United and Everton are ready to battle to secure the services of Swansea City midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson, according to the Mirror.

The South Wales side are keen to keep hold of the Iceland international but may be powerless to do so if they lose their Premier League status.

Despite his sides’ struggles, Sigurdsson has been in fine form this season playing every one of their league games, scoring nine goals and racking up twelve assists.

Since signing for them from Tottenham Hotspur three years ago the twenty-seven year old has racked up one hundred and twenty-nine appearances for the Swans in all competitions, scoring thirty-seven goals while he also played for them nineteen times during a loan spell in the 2011/12 campaign.

Robinho signs six-month deal at Guangzhou Evergrande

Brazilian striker Robinho has been reunited with Luiz Felipe Scolari after joining Chinese Super League club Guangzhou Evergrande on a six-month contract.

The former Milan and Manchester City attacker was without a club after leaving San Siro at the end of last season, and former Brazil coach Scolari swooped to take Robinho to China, where he will link up with fellow countryman Paulinho, who joined from Tottenham earlier this month.

Robinho, who was a £33 million signing for Manchester City in the summer of 2008, impressed for Brazil in this year s Copa America and Scolari will hope the 31-year-old can help him steer Guangzhou Evergrande to their fifth consecutive Chinese Super League title.

Following a tumultuous, 18-month stay in the Premier League, Robinho ha…

Gabi upbeat despite Leverkusen defeat

Gabi is confident Atletico Madrid can overturn a one-goal deficit against Bayer Leverkusen to stay in the UEFA Champions League.

Atletico Madrid captain Gabi remains confident the Spaniards can progress to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals despite a first-leg defeat to Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday.

The 2014 beaten finalists suffered their first loss since the opening group game of the competition as Hakan Calhanoglu gave Leverkusen a narrow advantage at the BayArena.

Having scored 14 goals in the group stages, it was a frustrating night for Atleti, with Bernd Leno in good form to keep out the few chances the visitors were able to create.

Atletico now have to score at least twice in the return leg, however they will be confident given their last de…

Bitesize Prediction: Palmeiras vs Corinthians – 02/07/24

Market: Palmeiras win

Odds: 1/2 @

Looking to make an immediate return to winning ways in the early hours of Tuesday, Palmeiras will welcome Corinthians to the Allianz Parque.

Starting with the hosts, putting in a nightmare performance over the weekend as they eventually fell to a 3-0 drumming at the hands of Fortaleza, Palmeiras will be desperate to claim an immediate response here. Nevertheless, despite missing out on the chance to reclaim their spot at the top of the Serie A standings, the Big Green are pencilled in as a standout contender to defend their domestic crown this season. Still collecting 15 points from their previous six top-flight appearances, Abel Ferreira’s men should be smelling a real opportunity in the early hours of Tuesday. Breezing their…

Can AC Milan transform themselves into title contenders this season?

2011 and €193 million. Those numbers are significant ones for AC Milan. The first, when the Rossoneri last won the Scudetto. The second, approximately how much they have spent this summer in a bid to re-claim it. Or, at the very least, make it into the top four as next season, Italy will have four representatives in the Champions League yet again.

However, having significantly outspent their cross-town rivals Inter, as well as reigning champions Juventus and fellow title aspirants Napoli and Roma, it goes without saying that Milan are harboring ambitions of more than just breaking into the top four. After all, one doesn t spent nearly €200 million and risk running afoul of Financial Fair Play just to finish in third or fourth spot. One breaks the bank to restore some pride.…

Sarri defends sacked Ventura over Insigne´s Italy snub

Maurizio Sarri understands why Gian Piero Ventura opted to ignore the claims of his forward Lorenzo Insigne as Italy missed out on World Cup qualification by losing their play-off against Sweden.

In a 2-1 home win against AC Milan on Saturday, Insigne looked in the mood to show Ventura dismissed after Italy missed out on a World Cup place for the first time in 60 years he was wrong to be left as an unused substitute in the second leg.

The forward raced on to a lofted throughball from fellow Italy international Jorginho to open the scoring and set up a victory that sent Napoli four points clear at the top of Serie A.

But Sarri said Ventura s system did not have an obvious place for wide forward Insigne, who had been used in central midfield when he came off the be…

Aguero would be surprised if City let Silva join Barcelona

Sergio Aguero would be surprised if Bernardo Silva leaves Manchester City for Barcelona, but believes the midfielder could play a key role in Xavi s rebuild if a move goes through.

Barca have signed Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie during a busy transfer window.

With Frenkie de Jong expected to leave Camp Nou, reports have suggested Portugal international Silva is Xavi s next target.

Silva made 50 appearances for City in all competitions last season, a tally only bettered only by Joao Cancelo (52), scoring 13 goals and providing seven assists.

Only Kevin de Bruyne (129) and Jack Grealish (78) created more chances for City than Silva s 76 last term, but he could be on the moving after stating the Prem…

Ribery: Ancelotti wanted me at Chelsea and likes me as a player

Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery is looking forward to working with Carlo Ancelotti next season and has revealed the Italian already attempted to sign him during his time in charge of Chelsea.

Ancelotti will replace Pep Guardiola at the Allianz Arena at the end of the 2015-16 campaign and Ribery has heard nothing but good things about the 56-year-old.

Ancelotti already wanted to sign me in 2009 when he was with Chelsea. That means he likes me as a player and that is obviously great, Ribery told Sport Bild.

I think Ancelotti is a great coach and human being. Communication will not be an issue because he speaks French after his time with PSG. I have heard a lot of good things about him.

We have already met, but we have not had extensive talks yet. But …

Howe being favourite for the England job no shock to Anderton

It is no surprise that Eddie Howe is the favourite to take over from Gareth Southgate, so says former England winger Darren Anderton.

On Tuesday, The Football Association (FA) confirmed Southgate was stepping down as England manager following the 2-1 Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain.

The 53-year-old led the Three Lions to two European Championship finals during his eight-year spell in charge, managing 102 games during his tenure, and winning 61 of those.

Speculation over who will become the next England manager is rife, with Howe reportedly on the FA s list of targets.

Anderton, who played in Euro 1996, believes the Newcastle United manager would be the perfect fit.

It s no surprise that he has been touted for it. I think it s something that s bee…
