Bernd Schuster has praised Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar following his superb form in the 2011-12 campaign.
Huntelaar moved to Real Madrid in January 2009, less than one month after Schuster had left his post as coach of Los Blancos, but never really managed to secure regular first-team action at the Santiago Bernabeu.
After an unsuccessful spell with AC Milan, Huntelaar joined Schalke in the summer of 2010. He has since rediscovered his scoring touch at the Bundesliga side this term, and Schuster is impressed with the attacker s finishing skills.
He looks like he was cloned from Marco van Basten. The way he moves, shoots with both legs and his powerful headers, all reminds me of Van Basten, Schuster said.
Team-mate Lewis Holtby was equally positi…
Lyon have extended the contract of Alexandre Lacazette by two years, according to chairman Jean-Michel Aulas.
The France international striker had been heavily linked with a move away from the Ligue 1 outfit during the transfer window, with Premier League side Newcastle United strongly tipped with his signature.
However, Lyon managed to keep hold of one of their most valuable assets with no deal being completed before Monday s deadline.
Aulas has now stated that Lacazette has signed a new deal, reportedly through to 2018, while also revealing that midfielder Yoann Gourcuff who has struggled for form and fitness since joining in 2010 has agreed to play this season on reduced terms.
Yoann Gourcuff has agreed to reduce his salary for the season and we have …

Bayern Munich superstar striker Robert Lewandowski has enjoyed a stellar start to the new season.
The 29-year-old only continued his impressive form from the last campaign by notching 11 goals for Bayern in 10 matches across all competitions. His formidable goalscoring exploits once again gained plenty of attention from continental giants.
Lewandowski has reemerged as a target for both Real Madrid and Manchester City who are reportedly keen to pounce for the Bayern Munich striker next summer.
Speaking to the Munich based media outlet TZ however, Robert Lewandowski ruled out the exit talks claiming he ‘feels very comfortable in Munich’.
The most recent departure speculations are nothing new for the player who’s been constantly linked with a move awa…
Real Madrid have completed the loan signing – with an option to buy – of promising Getafe forward Hugo Duro.
The 20-year-old, who was called up to the Spain Under-21 squad for the first time last week, will join up with Madrid s second team, Castilla, for the 2020-21 Segunda B1 season as he looks to earn a permanent move.
Duro has most regularly represented Getafe s B team, but since making his LaLiga debut in March 2018, he has gone on to make 25 appearances in the top tier.
The majority of those came as a substitute, which goes some way to explaining his return of just a single goal in LaLiga, but he did feature in nine of Getafe s 11 LaLiga matches after the coronavirus-enforced hiatus.
He has shown enough promise with the first team and B side –…
Michel has revealed that he wants to see a re-run of the 1984 European Championship final between Spain and France at Euro 2012.
Les Bleus won the competition decider on home soil thanks to a 2-0 win over the Spaniards, with Michel Platini and Bruno Bellone on hand to deliver their country a maiden European title.
Spain had to wait until 2008 to end their 44-year hoodoo in the tournament, but the current Sevilla boss now hopes his fellow countrymen get the opportunity to reverse the outcome of Euro 84 in this year s final.
Hopefully the final will be between Spain and France, and France to be runner-up, to get revenge for Euro 1984 Michel told Marca.
Michel then sounded out Spain as clear favourites to continue their European dominance for a further fou…
Shanghai Shenhua have signed midfielder Mohamed Sissoko from Levante.
The Mali international joins Shenhua after making 31 appearances for La Liga side Levante.
Sissoko started his career with Auxerre and went on to win La Liga, the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup with Valencia before spending two-and-a-half seasons at Liverpool, where he secured the FA Cup, Community Shield and the Super Cup.
After a three-year spell with Serie A side Juventus, Sissoko moved to Paris Saint-Germain in 2011. He was loaned to Fiorentina in January 2013 before and then left PSG by mutual consent later that year.
Sissoko made the move to Levante in January last year and will now look to help a Shenhua side that sits a disappointing 11th in the Chinese Super League.

Juventus will pay Sassuolo nothing for new signing Manuel Locatelli until 2023.
The Serie A giants confirmed on Tuesday they had secured Italy midfielder Locatelli s services on a five-year deal, with a €25million fee cited.
However, the full details of the agreement show Juve effectively have Locatelli on a free for the next two years.
After that time, and if certain sporting objectives are met , Juve will be obligated to pay the €25m over the following three years to retain his registration.
A further €12.5m will be payable if additional conditions are met.
Locatelli scored twice against Switzerland and made five appearances in Italy s Euro 2020 triumph.
Juve vice president Pavel Nedved revealed at the start of this month …
